To Tell A Story, 1983

John Berger and Susan Sontag

I didn’t know that Berger later lived in a peasant town until watching this, as it’s frequently referenced throughout this old conversation from 1983 between Berger and Sontag. It sounds like a dismissal at first when Sontag references it, but it isn’t meant to be—rather, a helpful display of how different contexts create different perspectives and opinions in what makes a good story, and what the art of storytelling consists of, from oral to literary.
